Elena Cutshall, Elise Giles and I just returned from the 2020 CREW Network Winter Leadership Summit in Santa Clara, CA where we not only represented CREW Austin but learned about CREW Network initiatives.  A few of the highlights included adding a new chapter – CREW Nova Scotia, gaining insight of CREW Network’s three-year strategic plan and attending chapter to chapter breakout sessions.
Elena said that “The keynote speakers are always a favorite and the speakers at this event did not disappoint.  Casey Carpenter taught us the importance of speaking with confidence while being thoughtful, authentic & well versed on the topic we want to deliver. Karyn Nishimura Sneath helped us evaluate our chapters skills, talents and years of expertise to see how we can be better engaged.”

Elise’s takeaways included “Public Speaking skills identified PREP (Point, Reason, Example, Point) as a great way to handle Impromptu Speaking requests.  Finance Committee - many chapters have created a Finance Committee vs. just having a Treasurer role, which would handle all finance decisions with regard to Network Contracts, Annual Audited Statements, Creating the Budget and submitting all items to the Board for approval.  This is a great way to create a committee with an eye for succession planning for the next Treasurer. In “Deepening the Bench” for the CREW Chapters, there were other ideals I really liked which included creating a Group Resume for our CREW Chapter to identify years of professional experience we all have, # of degrees we have, and years in CREW Austin, we have collectively.  This is a powerful way to identify our strength as a chapter and it should be used as a marketing tool to recruit more members. Another concept was to invest in our members to take them from passive to Active to ENGAGED.  When engaged, members will volunteer on our committees, and create the ‘bench’ we need for our future leadership in the chapter.”
I am also excited to announce some of the 2020 Convention speakers – Jill Donovan, Founder and CEO of Rustic Cuff; Mary Ludgin, Senior Managing Director and Head of Global Research with Heitman and the keynote speaker and Academy award-winning actress, director and author – Diane Keaton.  In case you have not heard, the 2020 CREW Network Convention and Marketplace will be held on September 15th – 17th at the Fairmont Hotel in Austin, TX.
