When you read this message, Mardi Gras and its celebrations will have recently concluded and I, along with CREW Austin members and officers, Amy Hurst, Elena Cutshall, Kathy Carr, Stacy Reed and Alane Ebner will have returned from the 2019 CREW Network Leadership Summit in New Orleans. The motto of New Orleans is laissez les bon temps rouler
or let the good times roll
and both the summit and the City of New Orleans offered us that opportunity last month. This summit was my fourth summit and I am always impressed that the programs are fresh and relevant and the opportunity to build relationships, both professionally and personally, is abundant. In this month’s message, I’ve asked Amy Hurst, the 2019 President Elect, and Elena Cutshall, 2019 Secretary to the Board, to give you their impressions and takeaways from the summit.
Before I turn it over to them, please take note of a couple exciting CREW Austin events that are coming up in the following months. Registration is open for our March Luncheon: March Money Madness – Meet the Money. The luncheon will be held on March 12, 2019 at the UT Club and you can register here https://crewaustin.org/events/luncheon/2019-03-12-march-luncheon
. A panel of great speakers will discuss the differences behind the money in commercial real estate. Also, be sure to save the date for the second annual 2019 Downtown Austin Architecture Boat Tour co-hosted by CREW Austin & AIA Austin. The boat will depart on April 25, 2019 and event details and registration will be forthcoming at https://crewaustin.org/events/special-events/2019-04-19-boat-tour
Finally, I want to congratulate the awesome UCREW Committee for an excellent program held on February 27, 2019. Thank you to Danielle McKenzie and Julie Zitter, the chairs of 2019 UCREW committee for all their hard work and dedication to creating a program that raises the bar for all future programs. I attended the final session, as a judge, which I assure you was no easy task. Nine young women from various universities in Austin presented their projects and CREW Austin awarded $5,500.00 in scholarships to three of the women. Now, back to the leadership conference.
Amy Hurst (2019 President Elect) -
I attended the CREW Network Winter Leadership Summit as a delegate this year. Which meant, I represented the Austin Chapter and received training on my delegate responsibilities. As a delegate, I voted on behalf of our chapter to approve the October 2018 Fall Council Meeting Minutes, the approval of a new chapter – CREW Nashville, and to confirm the Nominating Committee as recommended by the CREW Network Board. Other meetings and workshops that I attended included Chapter Leader Training: Purposeful Membership Strategies to Grow Your Chapter, Personal Branding for Professionals and Chapter to Chapter Roundtables. I learned some technics that our chapter could utilize on how to grow membership and sponsor dollars.
Elena Cutshall (2019 Secretary) -
This was my first leadership summit and the content was excellent and kept my attention the entire time. Why CREW you ask… Because to quote our past president Cacki Jewart: We Work together, Play Together & Support each other, that’s the power of the CREW Network. We learned strategies on how to attract & retain members with a diverse experience level from a variety of disciplines, how to keep our membership engaged and participating in committees / events and how to develop and promote our personal brand. Through the various programs, lectures & round table discussions I was able to benchmark our chapter against our national counter parts, Austin’s membership size, involvement, program diversity and content seem to be among the top nationwide.
